Mitsui Ventures invests
in Hainan Hailing Pharmaceutical Corp. Ltd.,
a pharmaceutical company in Hainan Island, China.
November 21 2007 - Mitsui Ventures announced its investment of US$2 million in Hainan Hailing Pharmaceutical Corp. Ltd.(www.hailingpharm.com), a pharmaceutical company in Haikou, Hainan Province in China (“Hailing Pharmaceutical”), participating in a US$ 17 million financing round, with AIF Capital, Hong Kong as the lead investor.
Hailing Pharmaceutical was established in 1990 as a state-owned company, and privatized in 2000. It currently has 450 employees and manufactures over 100 kinds of pharmaceutical products such as antibiotic in its plant area of 13,500 square meters. As the drug market has expanded in China, Hailing Pharmaceutical has continued its growth through alliance with pharmaceutical companies in Japan, Korea, Spain, India, Taiwan, etc., and aims to list its stock on overseas stock market in the near future.
The goal of Mitsui Ventures is not only to provide capital for Hailing Pharmaceutical to strengthen their business, but also to assist Hailing Pharmaceutical proactively to enhance their growth and profitability by utilizing the knowledge and experience of Mitsui Ventures gained through investment in bio-tech ventures in the U.S. and Japan as well as the network of Mitsui & Co. group.
