Boingo to Operate WiFi Services at Chicago's Merchandise Mart
World's Largest Commercial Building
to Offer Consumer and Exhibition WiFi Services
LOS ANGELES — April 27st, 2010—Boingo Wireless, the world’s leading WiFi provider, today announced that it is launching retail and commercial Wi-Fi services at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago as part of an exclusive deal with MMPI, the world's leading owner and operator of showroom buildings and trade show facilities.
Boingo’s retail WiFi offering – based on the company’s industry-leading neutral host roaming platform will be available in The Merchandise Mart’s lobby, retail shops, and restaurants located on the first and second floors. Boingo will also provide a commercial WiFi network for trade show exhibitors on the seventh, eighth, and twelfth floors.
“Boingo’s experience in deploying enterprise class Wi-Fi networks in large venues was a significant aspect of the deal for us,” said Peter Hurst, Vice President of IT of The Merchandise Mart. “Just as importantly, we chose Boingo because their commitment to neutral host roaming directly benefits the millions of visitors we see per year, making Internet access easily available to almost anyone with an existing Wi-Fi account.”
“The Merchandise Mart is a tremendous addition to our owned and operated network,” said Dave Hagan, president and CEO of Boingo Wireless. “As one of the country’s leading venues, it’s an ideal place to establish retail and commercial Wi-Fi access. This will be a flagship installation for Boingo as we expand our installations from major airports to arenas, large commercial properties and other venues.”
The Merchandise Mart hosts more than 3 million visitors and 300 trade shows per year, including annual events such as NeoCon® and Art Chicago®. The first and second floors encompass the Shops at the Mart™, which includes a variety of specialty stores and restaurants, and 30 LuxeHome® Boutiques, featuring the world’s largest collection of resources for home building and renovation.
